Togbe Sadekla II (Mawuli K. Hormeku)
Founder & Principal Steward
Togbe Sadekla II leads the Sadekla initiative across its three entities — the Sadekla Foundation LBG (Ghana), Sadekla Land & Resources Ltd (Ghana), and Friends of Sadekla, Inc (United States 501(c)(3) public charity. Duly installed as Dufia of Tosukpo-Sadeklakope within the Agave Traditional Area, he convenes the customary, commercial, and charitable arms of the initiative in service of the communities of the Agave Traditional Area and the four hereditary gates of the Fievie Clan, from whose founding king, Adela Akalo, his lineage descends — and the generations who will inherit this stewardship.
His path to this work spans more than two decades of community building, education, and economic development. He served as Executive Director of Nehemiah Economic Development in Brooklyn, where he founded the Solar Pioneers green-workforce training program and the Kofi Hormeku Scholarship Fund for first-generation college students; sat on Brooklyn Community Board 16; ran for New York City Council on a platform of Legacy, Ownership, Vocation, and Education; and taught across institutions from Cambridge College to Columbia University’s Justice-in-Education Prison Education Program.
He holds a Master of Arts in Education Policy and Social Analysis from Columbia University, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Boston College, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Boston College.
